Given its heart motif, size, and age, this early 19th century miniature tin sconce was most likely a love token.  It has a crimped top and a punched heart in the center of the back.  The edges are folded.  The narrow candle cup sits in an extended, crimped drip pan.  A "granny note" attached to the back says, "Small Tin Sconce Lamp, tall back bent to form base, with single socket.  Height 5 1/4 in. A gift from W. F. Boardman whose grandfather used it 1770".  It has the warm patina of aged tin with an untouched surface.  In excellent condition.
Dimensions:  height 5.25"; width 2"; extension of base 2.5".
