Rare 18th century, Bergen County, NJ cherry and pine slide lid candle box, dated 1763 and initialed PVB (Peter Van Buskirk). The raised panel sliding top features a lollipop shaped handle; a matching lollipop sits behind it on the top of the box. The round handle, split at some point in its early life, was repaired in period with a piece of hickory that was shaped and formed into the handle. The back is secured by rosehead nails. This rare and historical piece can be hung or can sit on a table either vertically or horizontally. Dimensions: width 10"; height of box 13.25", to top of handle 19.5"; depth 4".
