An endearing portrait attributed to William Prior portrait ca. 1835-1840; on artist board in likely original grain painted frame. The young boy is wearing a blue dress, typical for boys under the age of six, at which time they would be dressed in pants (breeching). He is holding a rattle, an indication that he was very young, probably under 2 years old. His large blue eyes and pink rosebud lips stand out against the simple dark background. In excellent original condition. Dimensions: sight 9.5" x 13.5"; frame 12.25" x 16.25".
