Miniature portraits ca. 1835-1840; watercolor, graphite, and gouache.  Reminiscent of works by Jane A. Davis, this couple was drawn in graphite; their clothing  in watercolor. The lady wears a dress with large puffy sleeves, and an elaborate lace collar topped with a black ribbon.  Her bonnet is ruffled and tied in front.  Her face is delicately drawn in graphite and highlighted in gouache.  The gentleman is wearing a black waistcoat, a high collared shirt, patterned vest, and patterned ascot around his neck.  His distinctive face is also in graphite.  This lovely pair of early miniatures are in period walnut veneered frames that are most likely original.  Dimensions:  sight 3.75" x 4.5; frame 5" x 5.75".
