Mahantongo rare diminutive/child’s six-board blanket box.  From the Mahantongo Valley, located in central Pennsylvania east of the Susquehanna River, came of style of furniture known for its distinctive paint decorations.  The most common form of Mahantongo furniture is the chest of drawers; dower chests on bracket bases are also valued.  Both forms are typically paint decorated with central praying angels, or less common, prancing horses.  There are also colorful rosettes, a distinctive feature of Mahantongo paint decoration.
