19th century lidded spice container in original black painted surface.  A substantially sized jar with great form and color.  In the making of this piece, a design element was created by adding an additional piece to the rim.  The effect is that there is consistent decorative beading on the lid, along the top edge of the jar, and at the edge of the footed base. The knob is integral to the lid.  The broad footed base balances the fullness of the container.  In original surface and excellent condition.  Dimensions:  height 7"; width 5.5".
