Sewing Pocket pairs of this age and condition are a rarity.  These 19th century pieces are most likely from New England.  The pockets are made of roller print cotton chintz fabrics with a linen back.  They are all hand sewn.  There is an in-period repair to a corner of the back of each pocket.  

 

Ladies’ pockets were tied around the waist and were a primary means of carrying necessities.  Patchwork was the ideal expression of the Yankee “waste not, want not” attitude - a practical way to put scraps of fabrics to good use.  All original, including the ties.  Dimensions:  width across bottom 12.5”; width across top 7.5”; height 16.5”.
