19th century watercolor portrait by Jane A. Davis of a young girl in a pink dress

Jane Anthony Davis watercolor on paper of a young girl c.1845 in a period veneered frame.  This is a lovely image of a young girl wearing a dark pink dress with ruffled bodice and sleeves.  Typical of Davis's work, the child’s face and body are gouache.  Her very sweet face is in pencil; her blue eyes in watercolor are striking, as is her dark brown hair.  She is a particularly attractive example of Davis’s work of children.  For additional examples of Davis’s work, see “A Loving Likeness; American Folk Portraits of the Nineteenth Century”, pgs. 14 & 15. Also “Three New England Watercolor Painters”, pgs. 42–55.  Provenance:   Jane Curtin Collection (many years ago).

Dimensions:  sight 3” x 3.25”; frame 7” x 7.5”.
