From the important textile collection of Ronnie Newman, this charming New England footstool, ca. 1840, features a shirred rug cover on a linen base. The rug pattern is dominated with a central flower in rose and shades of browns and tans, surrounded by shirred patterns of blues and tans. The base stands on Windsor legs and has remnants of an earlier fabric. As expected losses to small areas of the rug reveal the wonderful early linen base fabric. Dimensions: 13.75” x 10”, height 6.75”.
Provenance: Private Collection, Ronnie Newman Collection.
