Early 19th century wooden figure of a man in period clothing, ca. 1820-1835. While wooden figures of men are rare, what makes this one quite special is the authenticity of his original clothing.  The figure itself is striking. The body, thighs, and upper arms are stuffed; the lower legs and arms are wood, jointed at the shoulders and knees. The fingers are distinctively carved, as are his eyes, ears, mouth, and prominent nose.  The surface appears to be gesso, which was commonly used in that period as a base or on its own.

He is fashionably dressed in the style and original fabrics of the 1820-1835 period.  He is wearing a wool frock coat with a full-length knee skirt, a fitted fish waist with buttons on the front and back.  The cuffs coordinate with the stylish slim trousers in a brown textured fabric. The shirt has a tall collar with pleats and tucks down the front and a folded cravat around the neck. The patterned vest, (also called a waistcoat) has a fashionable shawl collar in a complementary print that is opened to show the pleats of the shirt.  The outfit, in period fabrics, was made specifically for this figure as it fits him perfectly.  Custom stand is included.

Condition:  The frock coat has minor age-related wear; right thumb and feet lost long ago.  Dimensions:  height 14.25”.
