Rare folk art watercolor by Mary Knight of Otisfield, ME, ca. 1835-1840. There are only 37 known works by Mary Knight, one of the few early 19th century female folk artists. This piece depicts a typical New England farmstead. Mary painted the farm structures with precision, each line meticulously drawn to represent the architectural style of that place and period. Splashes of color on the blue doors offer a sense of whimsey to an otherwise austere setting that was designed for function. In very fine condition. Dimensions: sight 12.25” x 8”; frame 15” x 10.5. Provenance: Private Collection; a long-time and well-respected NH Collection.
