Early 19th century pastel portrait of an attractive and confident young lady. Her expression is forthright. Her dark hair fall in ringlets fall across her forehead; the rest of her hair held up with a tortoise shell comb and a jeweled hair clip. She is elegantly attired in a lovely white dress with lace applied to her collar, bodice, and sleeves. Her jewelry appears to be hairwork, an art that dates back to the 16th century. Attributed to J. Martin, an English portrait artist who work in the Mid-Atlantic states from 1794 - 1820. In a later aesthetically appropriate frame; minor foxing.
