Rare 18th century New England embroidered sewing pocket features a charming heart set among flowering vines. The body of the pocket is a fine linen with an overall design of meandering vines and flowers. Black thread was used to embroider the vines; shades of blue, buttery ivory, and rosy-pink form the flowers. A large heart is centered on the bottom half of the pocket, encircled and embellished with the same blue, buttery ivory, and black threads. A wonderful and rare 18th century pocket in excellent condition. The typical thread loss to the black vines is due to the acidic properties in the dyes used in that time period; strap has been re-attached. Dimensions: width across bottom 10.5”; width across top 7”; overall length 18”.
