18th century make-do lighting. The iron candle holder was likely part of an early spike lighting device that had broken off the spike. In the period, and in true make-do spirit, the broken piece was inserted into a turned bell-shaped base. The base retains an old brown painted surface, over the original red. The old candle as pictured is included. A genuine and early lighting device that complements a period or country setting. Dimensions: overall height 5”; height of base 3.5”; diameter of base 3.75”.
