Silhouette ca. 1825-1835. A rarely found family of three in a period grain painted frame. New England origin; possibly Maine as the frame is painted in red and black graining that is commonly found there. All are hollow-cut and pen/ink. The lady’s face is hollow-cut; her hair and comb are ink. The dress, also in ink, has puffy sleeves; a ribbon tied in a bow is around her neck. The young girl, identified in pencil as Abbie Powdin(?), has a hollow-cut face and dress. Her hair curls and sprig of greenery are done in ink. Her collar and cuff have inked ruffles. Look at her tiny inked shoes! The gentleman has a hollow-cut face and jacket. His hair, lapel and ruffles on the front of his shirt are inked. Minor wear to the paper near the bottom that does not interfere with the image. Provenance: Private collection; Joan Brownstein. Dimensions: sight 8” x 3.5”; frame 10” x 5.25”.
