Silhouette, ca. 1820, attributed to William Chamberlain (1790 - 1860). Hollow cut with pen and ink highlights and blue tie. Chamberlain worked in New England during the 1820s, primarily NH and MA. His works are recognized by "his added details of coiffure and costume." (A History of American Silhouettes, A Collector's Guide-1790-1840, Alice Van Leer Carrick, p. 121.) The molded frame in paint is period, possibly original, constructed with tiny wrought nails. In excellent condition. From a Private collection. Dimensions: sight 2 3/8" x 3.5"; frame 3 5/8" x 4 7/8".
