This iconic 1835 hearth rug of a bucolic homestead is caterpiller-shirred and yarn sewn.  Overall background color is sage green. The sky is bright blue with scattered whispy clouds.  Colorful birds perch in the trees. A kitchen garden is planted in front of the outbuilding where the kitchen was located.  Flowers and meandering vines border the scene.  Embellished with dark green fringe on the edges.  Provenance:  Private NY collection; Jan Whitlock.  Published in      "American Hooked and Sewn Rugs: Folk Art Underfoot", Joel and Kate Kopp; page 33, plate 31.  Professionally mounted.
