This rare boy doll is from New England, ca. 1880-1890.  There are other dolls by this hand, easily recognizable by its sophisticated facial construction. The centers of the skillfully embroidered eyes are stitched to simulate the iris, then surrounded by stitched eyelashes.  The applied nose appears to be made by rolled fabric.  The mouth is also made by rolled red fabric then attached to the face.  Mitten hands.  The original clothes are black velvet and sewn on.  The head covering is also black velvet and sewn on.  This boy is a real treat!  Dimensions:  16" tall.
