Rare pair of miniature blue smoke paint decorated tin sconces, ca. 1820-1830. The crimped backs taper toward the bottom, where ogee shaped arms hold taper candle cups with crimped drip pans. These remarkable survivors were most likely made by a tinsmith as “end of day” whimseys.  The have retained their wonderful blue smoke paint decoration, a technique that was commonly used on tin during this period.   Early tallow taper candles are included.  Dimensions:  length 8.75”; arm extensions from back to drip pan 4”; width at top 3”, at bottom 2”.
