Heart and Hand memorial love token, early 19th century. Mounted on blue silk, this finely cut hand holds a heart with a serrated edge, with a smaller woven heart in the center. A pair of doves are perched on top of the heart. The hand is surrounded by a wreath of braided hair.
This piece is rich in symbolism:
