The purpose of samplers was to teach young girls needlework skills. This miniature darning sampler is extra special as it most likely was made in Chester County, PA. Sampler makers there often used narrow strips of fabric or ribbon to secure and decorate the edges of the sampler. The maker of this piece was also quite skilled: each square of this sampler contains two different advanced darning techniques.
Dimensions: sight just under 5" x 5"; frame 5.75" x 5.75".
