Early Black cloth doll, ca. 1880.  She's a big girl . . . almost 30" tall.  Firmly stuffed.  Embroidered face, astrakan hair, wide hips. Interestingly, her body, arms, and legs are white; the black fabric has been sewn over her head and lower arms.  I don't know if she was originally made that way or if the black fabric was added later.  Either way, the black fabric has been there a long time.  Her dress is most likely original because it fits her perfectly, however it is a bit tattered and fragile. She has layers of underclothes . . . slip, panteloons, socks . . . and wonderful leather shoes.
